The White Horse is a little East Austin mixed with a honky-tonk so its gotta be good..Yep. White Horse is pretty hard to explain. If you are used to plush covered chairs and technotronic blaring form the speakers, then this place isn't for you. If you don't mind a rough around the edges, Lone Star beer-serving live music venue, this spot is for you. The bands all have a country/western feel and the dance floor is reserved for two-stepping and attempted two stepping (what I do)....Outside there is a great porch and a solid taco truck. Go there and the whiskey will soothe your soul.
The Continental Club has been rocking South Congress before it knew it was cool. The place is filled with music all night, every night. You can see something different every night and the music ranges from rockabilly to Americana to country, featuring some of Austin's best singer-songwriters and bands. Check out the Saturday matinee show if you have been trekking around South Congress. That Lonestar Beer will certainly be the highlight of your day.
Every town might have a cliche spot that has been around for YEARS that is actually worth going to...and Broken Spoke is it in Austin. It is still mighty authentic and the patrons there take their two-stepping seriously. They have some great country acts rolling through there every night, so dust off the boots and go check it out. The bar offers free dance lessons every and night at prior to the headlining band's set and don't miss out on the famous chicken fried steak for dinner!
